Give Inmates To Cumberland Supervisors

Editor, The Herald:

I read the article regarding jail costs at Piedmont Regional Jail for Prince Edward and Cumberland. Prince Edward’s board has been told why costs are going up. Cumberland Supervisors, on the other hand, say they don’t have enough information to pay their part of the jail cost.

Does Cumberland have an incompetent staff or have so many employees left the County that staff is unable to explain to the board what is going on with the cost of doing business? Maybe our Sheriff’s Department needs to drop the inmates off at the courthouse yard or maybe, better still, divide them up among the board of supervisors members and drop them off at their front door and costs will be zero at the jail.
