Astronomy Evening At High Bridge
Published 3:45 pm Tuesday, September 3, 2013
High Bridge Trail State Park will host an astronomy event on Saturday evening, September 7, beginning on the bridge at 8 p.m.
The Milky Way will be high overhead separating the stars Altair and Vega, a grouping that is featured in the story of the princess and the cowherd from Chinese mythology. The evening’s sky tour will tell this ancient love story and point out other prominent constellations. In addition, the skies will feature a celestial triangle formed by the two-day old waxing crescent moon and the planets Saturn and Venus. Tripod-mounted binoculars and a telescope will help participants get a better view of these and other objects in the night sky.
High Bridge Trail State Park’s astronomy events are held near the center of High Bridge where the view of the sky is unobstructed. This location is approximately 1.25 miles from the closest parking lot (High Bridge Trail State Park’s River Road lot), so please allow ample time to traverse the distance. The event is free, but State Park parking fees apply.
