Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to Jo Lang, of New Canton, celebrating on Friday, June 7; Gladys Absher, of Dillwyn, celebrating on Saturday, June 8, Billy Adams, of Farmville, celebrating on Monday, June 10, and Michael Mahoney, of Cumberland, celebrating on Thursday, June 13.

Kevin and Rene Marion, of Cumberland visited in the home of James and Virginia Boyles, also of Cumberland, on Sunday, June 2.

Welcome home to Ruby Cogdill of Cumberland who spent a few days recently in the hospital. She is said to be doing ok as of this writing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who are sick and shut-in.

Hello this week to our good friends Agnes Ogle, of Cumberland, and Bea England, of Dillwyn.

A large crowd attended a luncheon at the home of Nell Spain in Cumberland on Saturday, June 1. Everyone enjoyed a great day of food, fun and fellowship.

A fundraiser has been scheduled to help Debbie Allen, of Cumberland with medical expenses. She has no insurance and bills are adding up. On Friday evening, June 7 from 4-8 p.m. at the Cumberland County Volunteer Fire Department on Route 13 in Cumberland there will be a benefit spaghetti supper, dine-in or take-out. The menu will include homemade spaghetti, bread, salad, drink and dessert for a donation. Other activities include bake sale auction and other items, vendors, door prizes and music featuring Second Time Around with Bob Estes and Tommy Moore of Buckingham. Arvonia Christian Fellowship Church cordially invites all to attend worship service each third Tuesday of the month from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Dillwyn.

Cedar Baptist Church, located just off of U.S. Route 15 North of Dillwyn on State Route 650 (Trents Mill Rd.), hosts a Men's Promise Keepers Prayer Breakfast each Sunday morning (excluding fifth Sundays) from 8:30-9:30 a.m.

Arvonia Christian Fellowship Church Thrift Store located off of U.S. Route 15 North of Dillwyn on Circle Drive in Arvonia, is open every Thursday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds from the thrift store are used to help individuals and families in their hour of need.
