CUMBERLAND, June 20 – Freddie Buryl Adkins, 86, of Cumberland, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2013. He was born in Prince Edward County on June 15, 1927 to the late Ella Robertson Adkins and David C. Adkins.
He joined the Army and did his patriotic service fighting in WWII. When he came home he spent his life working as a farmer and was married to the late Marjorie Adkins.
Mr. Adkins is survived by his daughters, Bernita Speed (Mitchell), Darlene Hartley (Floyd), Deborah Pierce, Judy Ratliff and special friend (Fred Thomas) and Wanda Adams; sister, Joan Routt (Ryland); ten grandchildren, David Sprinkle, Debra Sprinkle, Chris Hartley, Kelly Anderson, Mark Finch, Lisa Finch, Michael Finch, Shana Fields, April Sayers and Carlton Adams; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews and a devoted friend and caregiver, Diane Gray.
Family will receive friends Thursday (today), June 20 at Shorter Funeral Home from 7 p.m.-9 p.m.
A funeral service will be held Friday, June 21 at 2 p.m. at New Life Assembly of God. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery.
