The Cumberland County Planning Commission will meet on Monday, July 15, 2013, at 6:30 p.m., or as soon thereafter as may be heard, in Room C-8 of the Cumberland County Community Center located at the corner of Anderson Highway (Route 60) and Forest View Road (Route 628) in Cumberland, Virginia, to conduct a public hearing pursuant to Virginia Code Section 15.2-2204, which such hearing may be continued or adjourned, as required under applicable law, and to consider the following item and taking actions in furtherance thereof:

2013 Comprehensive Plan Update – The Comprehensive Plan is the long-range plan for the physical development of the County. It was most recently updated in 2006. Section 15.2-2230 of the Code of Virginia requires that it be reviewed at least once every five years. The County staff and Planning Commission have prepared an updated 2013 Comprehensive Plan.

The Plan recommends land use principles and a future land use map to guide county decision-making. Strategies proposed include efforts to retain and promote the rural character of the County and the creation and designation of growth areas in and around Cumberland Courthouse, Route 60, Cartersville and Farmville, for the purpose of new development and economic growth.

Copies of the complete text of the above comprehensive plan update are available for public review at the office of the Cumberland County Planning Department, County Administration Building, 1 Courthouse Circle, Cumberland, Virginia between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm of each business day. The public is invited to attend this hearing at which persons affected may appear and present their views.
