As Chris Brochon on WFLO Radio would say, “Today (June 28) is the 179th day of the year, with 187 days remaining”.

Next Tuesday, July 2, we will be dead center of the year — 183rd day with 183 remaining.

But there is a much more important day next week – Independence Day -the 4th of July.

Even if you don't have any major plans for that day, I hope that you will stop and take a moment to remember all those who have gone before and those who continue to go in harms way to protect us – to ensure that we continue to be “the land of the free and the home of the brave”.

When George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, Benjamin Franklin and many others whose names we don't know and wouldn't recognize came together to craft our founding documents-Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Rights-they knew exactly what they were doing.

Those documents are every bit as relevant today as they were when they were written.

So whether your plans are for a spectacular 4th, or just a cookout with family and friends don't forget to remember what the celebration is all about.
