BUCKINGHAM, May 14 – Sarah Wright Stinnett, 89, of Buckingham, died peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2013 in Richmond. The daughter of Georgianna Wade Wright and Thomas Jackson Wright, she was born in Buckingham.

Mrs. Stinnett grew up in Buckingham and, for a year, taught grades 1-7 in the County's one-room school. Later, she worked for the Health Department of Virginia. After marrying, she moved to Richmond and lived there until her husband retired in 1984 when they returned to Buckingham. A devoted wife and mother, her handmade pressed-flower cards earned her local recognition as “the Flower Lady of Buckingham.”

She is survived by a daughter, Georgianne Stinnett of Richmond; sisters, Lucile Wright of Buckingham, and Shirley Wright Rickman of Farmville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Russell Coleman Stinnett, of Amherst County, who died in 2009.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 14, at Antioch Union Baptist Church, Wingina, followed by a graveside service for family and friends at the Wright family cemetery.

Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, served the family.
