FARMVILLE – The second of two men who escaped from the Immigration Centers of America-Farmville facility on April 22 was apprehended Monday.
Joel Isiah Fuentes, of Belize, was apprehended in New Jersey, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) public affairs officer, Brandon Montgomery, announced late Tuesday afternoon.
The other escapee, a man from Mexico, according to ICE, was apprehended one day after the escape, less than a mile outside the Town of Farmville's corporate limits.
The two men had escaped on April 22, wearing navy blue jumpers, by “climbing over the fence surrounding the recreation yard and then under the gate on the west side of the facility during an outdoor recreation period,” Montgomery explained at the time.
Both men were described by Montgomery as having “previous convictions but not for felony offenses” and he added they were for “non-violent offenses.”
When asked if Fuentes had been returned to the ICA-Farmville facility, Montgomery emailed: “I cannot comment on his whereabouts but in general someone who would escape would face federal charges and while in that process a detainer would be placed on the individual.”
The April 22 incident was the first reported escape by a detainee from the ICA-Farmville facility.
