Prince Edward/Farmville Youth Association Buddy Ball Baseball, a team for children with disabilities, met for its end-of-the-year game on Saturday, May 18 at the Longwood University softball field. The game was rained-out but an awards ceremony, with trophies for the children, and an ice cream party did take place. Baseball for children with disabilities has been in the area for five years. It was founded by Matt Lucas, an associate professor in the Department of Health, Athletic Training, Recreation, and Kinesiology at Longwood University. The first four years it was sponsored by Little League. This year the program switched membership to Dixie Baseball, and played its regular-season games at the Field of Dreams in Farmville. Helping to make the league a success this year, along with Lucas, were Erica Wallace and Kelly Rosko, Longwood University students, as well as other Longwood students, parents, and most importantly, the players. The team was sponsored by the Farmville Jaycees and the United Way.
