Arthur B. Layne, 74

CULLEN, April 23 – Arthur B. Layne, 74, of Cullen, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2013. He lived life, loved life and shared life!

After graduating from Randolph-Henry High School he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He became a pilot and taught several years at Randolph-Henry. He became a building contractor and a farmer growing tobacco, vegetables and tended cattle. Mr. Layne sold vegetables at the Lynchburg City Market for 30 years. He was a man who cared for all and had a big heart.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Gray Layne and the mother of his children, Carolyn Sue Layne of South Hill; daughter, Mary Layne Keifer and husband, Tom of Charlotte NC; son, Edward Layne and wife, Sharon of Cullen; son, Thomas (Tommy) Layne of South Hill; stepchildren, Angela Barbour and husband, Chris of Gladstone, and Charles Gray Jr. of Texas; grandchildren, Katie Keifer, Michael Keifer, Adam Layne, Joseph Layne, Christopher Layne and Macy Layne; stepgrandchildren, Zac Barbour, Nick Barbour, Anna Gray and Christine Gray. He was preceded in death by his father, Rasha Layne Sr., his mother, Mary B. Layne, brother, Rasha Layne Jr., sister-in-law, Virginia Layne and stepson, Stedman Gray.

A funeral service was held Monday, April 22 in the Cullen Volunteer Fire Department, with interment in Cullen Baptist Church Cemetery, Cullen.

Contributions may be made to the Cullen Volunteer Fire Department.

The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home, Keysville, was in charge of arrangements.
