Patriot Day A Month Away Volunteers Sought
Published 4:07 pm Thursday, March 21, 2013
Cumberland Patriot Day will be held on April 20. Opening ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. on the front lawn of the Courthouse Complex.
Events begin directly after the opening ceremonies with a parade starting at the courthouse and ending at the Cumberland High/Middle School where festivities will continue until 4 p.m. This year promises to bring a fun-filled day for everyone attending.
Patriot Day celebrates the first call for American independence made by Carter Henry Harrison on April 22, 1776. The Cumberland Historical Society will host a “meet and greet” for those who are interested in meeting the Harrison Family.
Cumberland Schools will be celebrating Earth Day with presentations on sustainability and renewable energy, including tours of school areas and gardens. The Red Cross will be holding a Blood Drive for those interested in giving blood.
Activities will include inflatables, an obstacle course and plenty of food and merchandise vendors. The mechanical bull, Orbitron and a rock wall are among the many attractions for this year.
Flashback Band will be performing outdoors this year on the main stage and there will also be various indoor stage acts such as Ashley Russell, the Hula Hoop girl, The Longwood Belly Dancers and more local talents. Russell will also be available after the performance to spend time with the children who are interested in hula hooping with her.
The committee would like to invite volunteers to assist with the event. Please contact us if interested. There are many different activities that will be taking place and additional help would be appreciated. We are very excited about this year's Patriot Day and look forward to seeing you there!
