Virginia Spurlock Cooper, 91

RICHMOND, February 19 – Virginia Spurlock Cooper, 91, of Richmond, died Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Our Lady of Hope in Richmond. She was born on July 22, 1921 in Meherrin, to Chatmon L. and Esther Herzig Spurlock.
Ms. Cooper graduated from Johnston Willis Hospital in 1942 with a RN degree in nursing. She furthered her nursing career by taking additional classes at RPI and MCV. She joined the navy during WWII and retired as a lieutenant, and went on to work at Johnston Willis and St. Mary's hospitals in Richmond.
She loved to travel, especially to Hawaii. She also loved football and was “glued to the tube” whenever the Redskins played.
Ms. Cooper is survived by two sisters, Mary Frances S. Taylor (Bobby) of Doswell and Wilma S. Howie (Jim) of Arlington, Texas; a number of nieces and nephews, special ones, Kathy Taylor Moorefield and Janet Taylor Thomas and their children, Bryan Moorefield, Kendall Thomas and Hunter Thomas.
Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
