“Hearts At War” will be presented by Linda Lipscomb, site director at the Museum of the Confederacy-Appomattox. The program will take place at the Museum of the Confederacy-Appomattox, 159 Horseshoe Road, Appomattox, on Feb. 10, 2 – 3 p.m.

By the time of the Civil War, Valentine's Day was well established and celebrated around the world. No one had a greater impact on sending Valentines in the United States than Ester Howland, the Mother of the American Valentine. Lipscomb will explain the history of Valentine's Day and the audience will learn through love letters how romance was not interrupted by war. She will share photographs of some of the Valentines found in the Museum of the Confederacy's collection. Participants are invited to take part in making an English-style valentine using paper lace or a German-style Valentine with Schenschnitte. School age children are welcome.

The program is free with museum admission. Space is limited. Register by Feb. 6. Contact Josie Butler at jbutler@moc.org or call toll free 855-649-1861 ext. 203.
