FEBRUARY 7 – Alvin Lee Buchanan, 74, of Farmville, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013 in Farmville. He was born June 3, 1938 in Halifax County to the late Vinnie Warren and Elizabeth Rickman Buchanan. Mr. Buchanan worked as a supervisor at the Craddock-Terry Shoe Corporation.
He is survived by his children, Terry Buchanan (Gwen) of Farmville and Judy Berry (Jimmy) of Mechanicsville; grandchildren, Justin Emerson of Mechanicsville, Todd Buchanan of Rice and Megan Buchanan of Farmville; brother, Bryant Buchanan (Barbara) of Chesterfield; sister, Nancy Grover (Bill) of Berlin, NJ; stepchildren, Betty, Patsy and Daphney Weaver all of Farmville; step-granddaughter, Kelly Leslie (Chris) of Farmville and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his companion for 21 years, Dorothy Morris; her children, Gregg and Pam Morris; granddaughter, Holly and Earnie Hill; grandsons, Josh Morris and his two daughters, Ryley and Macie, Matt and Jessica Morris, Randi and Jay Bateman and his pride and joy Seth Morris.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 8, at 7 p.m. at the Chapel of Shorter Funeral Home. A private interment will be held later.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association.
