CUMBERLAND, January 3 – Louise Asal Bethel, 90, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013 in Dillwyn. She was born March 29, 1922 to the late Phillip and Mary Brink Asal.

Mrs. Bethel was retired from the Cumberland Public Schools Cafeteria Department. She was the widow of Wesley D. Bethel. She loved ballgames and cooking.

She is survived by her sons, George C. Meinhard Jr. (Carol) and Claude B. Meinhard (Lisa) all of Cumberland; grandchildren, Tracy Nelson (Steve) of Cumberland, Claudia Meinhard (Mark) of Farmville, William Troy Meinhard (Luci) of Cumberland, Keith B. Meinhard (Stacy) of Buckingham, Shannon F. Britt (Steve) of Wytheville, Brandon Todd Meinhard (Megan) of Cumberland and Robert B. Meinhard (Kathy) of Cumberland and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five sisters.

A funeral service will be held Friday, January 4, at 2 p.m. at Tar Wallet Baptist Church in Cumberland with interment in the church cemetery.

Family will receive friends on Thursday (tonight), January 3 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Shorter Funeral Home.
