High Bridge Hiking, Biking and Riding To Elton's Prediction

In just a single year-and a year in which High Bridge was only open for nine months-the state park bearing its name took a huge step toward Joe Elton's prediction of an eventual attendance of one million.
Elton is director of Virginia's state parks and High Bridge Trail State Park's jump in attendance from 86,110 in 2011 to more than 188,000 last year bears witness to the wise trajectory of his prophecy.
High Bridge Trail averaged attendance of more than 16,400 a month last year, a number that will surely grow in the years ahead. Mr. Elton's prediction does not seem grandiose, the gradual accumulation of his projected numbers far more, rather than less, likely as the bridge and its trail's popularity spreads far and wide.
The possibilities were clearly demonstrated on a single weekend last year, Easter weekend when High Bridge opened for the first time. Between 4,500 and 5,000 visitors made the trek, a guest register bearing proof of visitors from 14 different states and the District of Columbia.
Twelve months from now another step as large, at least, will have been taken by park visitors toward Mr. Elton's goal.
If you haven't done so yet, add your own footsteps and cycling tracks to the trail. Cardio your vascular and enjoy the view.
