Glenda Pond Hudson

CHESAPEAKE, January 8 – Glenda Pond Hudson, formerly of Farmville, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 in Chesapeake. She was born on June 25, 1923 in Oklahoma to Victor and Sybil Shemwell Pond. She grew up in Pocahontas, AR and Louisville, KY.

While attending Southern Seminary in Louisville, she met the Rev. Virgil L. Hudson and they were married in August of 1947. She was the pianist for Rev. Hudson's churches at Lakeside Baptist, Richmond, Evergreen Baptist Church, Appomattox, and Pinecrest Baptist Church in Portsmouth. Additionally, she served as Virginia's WMU president, secretary of Portsmouth Baptist Association as well as working in the private sector.

She is survived by a son, L. Garrick Hudson and wife, Angela of Farmville; daughter, Lynnette H. Pope and husband, Mike of Chesapeake; granddaughter, Jessica M. Pope at Longwood University, and grandson, Richard M. Pope Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2010 and 15-year-old son, Kyle Wayland Hudson in June of 1963.

A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, January 10 at 2 p.m. in the Evergreen Cemetery, Appomattox County.
