POWHATAN, December 4 – Roscoe L. Timberlake, 95, of Powhatan, died Friday, November 30, 2012.

He was a member of the Powhatan County Board of Supervisors for twenty-nine years and was also an original commissioner of the Richmond Regional Planning Commission. He was motivated to enter political life when public education in Powhatan was threatened, and for his entire career was a staunch supporter of public schools.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma P. Timberlake; two sons, Thomas Powers (Cathy) of Sumter, S.C. and Art Powers (Sally) of Hardy; sister, Evelyn Saunders of Smithfield; five grandchildren, Wil Powers (Lindsey), Sarah Mullins (Chip), Alex Powers (Amber), and Robin and Jesse Powers; and two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Lucas Mullins.

A funeral service was held Monday in the Hobson's Chapel United Methodist Church, Powhatan. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the cemetery fund of Hobson's Chapel United Methodist Church.
