November 15 – “We are responsible for not only what we say, but also for how we say it.”

On Nov. 17, the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary's will hold a “Pig Pick'n” from 5-7 p.m.; the menu will include roasted pulled pork, potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, hush puppies, rolls, tea, lemonade, coffee and dessert, all for a donation.

The Prospect Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at Glenn Memorial Baptist Church in Prospect on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and give thanks for all you have, worshiping with your friends and neighbors.

A good number of Prospect residents turned out on Tuesday afternoon to find out what would be happening at the Prospect Post Office in the next few months. They were told the Post Office would remain open but the hours would be cut to six hours instead of the eight hours it is now open starting some time in late January.

The Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church members held their annual Harvest Stew Nov. 11. About 56 or more people were present. The stew was delicious and the fellowship was great. The stew master was Steve Bolt with assistant William McGuire.

Mrs. Edith Vaughan was accompanied by Mrs. Joyce Floyd on a trip to Chesterfield on Sunday afternoon to visit Mrs. Mildred Harvey Shanks. They had a very good visit.

Brianna and Charles Smith of Keysville spent Friday night with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith. On Saturday Brianna accompanied her grandfather to Halifax to a craft show while Charles spent the day with his grandmother.

Last Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith hosted the monthly covered dish for the small group from Faith Bible Fellowship. Attending were Mrs. Hilde Watson, Mr. and Mrs. John Utzinger, Mr. and Mrs. Al Quilan, Mr. and Mrs. Richard McClintock and Mr. and Mrs. Eric Fehr.

Local Hampden Sydney football fans enjoyed the game 'Saturday although they lost to Randolph Macon 41-31. A pre-game Veterans Day presentation honoring former Hampden Sydney players that had served in the military as well as President Christopher Howard was held.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Meadows were among those attending the midweek dinner on Wednesday night at the Farmville United Methodist Church. After dinner they all pitched in to wrap the “Shoe Boxes” for “Operation Christmas Child”.

Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. Don Meadows accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Bill Schall to the BBQ dinner at the Randolph Fire House in Cumberland County.

Mr. and Mrs. John Gager as well as Mr. and Mrs. Don Meadows attended the stew held at the Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church in Tuggle on Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. Flora Bolt, Mrs. Frances Southall and Miss Taylor Southall met at LaParota Grill for lunch on Nov. 8. Later in the afternoon Flora visited Mrs. Edna Woodson at Trinity Missions.

Mrs. Flora Bolt was guest of Ms. Sharon Troyer at the Focus Center near Shepherds on Nov. 2 for “Gospel Echoes Team Banquet” sharing the Light of Hope. This is a singing, praying group to raise money for the prison ministry and is sponsored by the Mennonite Church.

The Prospect Happy Hats enjoyed an afternoon of Bingo following a lunch of different kinds of soup provided by the hostess for their November outing: Mrs. Hilda Allen and Mrs. Betty Meadows. Those joining the hostesses were Mrs. Ann Norton, Mrs. Margaret Stockton, Mrs. Elsie Wilson, Mrs. Lorraine Chapman, Mrs. Elfrieda Kerns, Mrs. Edith Vaughan, Mrs. Joyce Floyd, Mrs. Lois Johnson, Mrs. Pat Smith, Mrs. Edwina Covington and Mrs. Lois Gager.

Neighbors, family and friends are praying for a speedy recovery for those that are sick at this time; Don Meadows, Eloise Tucker, Jean Derrenbacker of Richmond, and Wanda Whitus.

Friends and neighbors are expressing their sincere sympathy to those who have lost loved ones recently, the family of Mr. Marvin Stimpson, Jr.

Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invites everyone to Sunday School at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Chuck Klotzberger will be in the pulpit this Sunday.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday; Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with

worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Otis Worley will bring the message on Sunday.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. They invite you to join them each week on Wednesday evening for Bible Study for all age groups at 7 p.m. Calvary Chapel-Farmville is located at 45 Simpson, Road in Prospect, two miles west of Dowdy's Corner just off of US 460.
