CVA Oil Painting Workshop Planned For Dec. 1

Published 4:28 pm Wednesday, November 21, 2012

Artist and educator Marjorie Perrin will lead a workshop “Oil Painting Basics” on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Fine Arts Studio in Winston Hall, 179 Via Sacra on the Hampden-Sydney College Campus. This workshop, sponsored by Central Virginia arts, a partner of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, has been organized by the VMFA Office of Statewide Partnerships.

The workshop is intended to provide insight for beginning painters just starting out in oils, as well as more experienced painters who are developing techniques. Ms. Perrin will demonstrate the development of a composition, and participants will discover the results of painting wet in wet and creating form with color. By understanding how the paints work, participants will be able to translate what they see into finished oil paintings. Emphasis will be on employing a full range of techniques to create an expressive painting. During the workshop, participants can work from photos or from still life. This workshop is appropriate for high school students and adults.

Ms. Perrin has been painting and teaching in Richmond, since the 1980s. She graduated with honors from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 1984 and received awards for landscape painting in oil and figurative work in watercolor. She has been awarded two fellowships to the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. In addition, she has studied at the Art Students League of New York and Virginia Commonwealth University, as well as with portrait artists Cedric Egeli and Joanette Egeli.
