Evelyn Maude Moore Coleman

PROSPECT, October 30 – Evelyn Maude Moore Coleman, of Prospect, died in Farmville on Sunday, October 28, 2012. She was born in Prospect on June 1, 1927, a daughter of the late Henry Latimer Moore and Elsie Paulette Moore. She married Anderson Davis Coleman on October 1, 1949 and was a devoted wife until his death on September 28, 1992.

Mrs. Coleman was a member of the Longwood College Class of 1948, and upon her graduation worked for Longwood until her retirement in 1988. She was secretary to the Dean of the College prior to serving as secretary to five presidents and two interim presidents, beginning with Dr. Francis Lankford in 1955 to Dr. William F. Dorrill in 1988. She ably served as Executive Secretary during the tenures of Dr. Henry I. Willett Jr. from 1967 to 1982, Dr. Janet Greenwood from 1981-1987, and the first year of Dr. Dorrill's presidency in 1988.

She was a life-long member of Olive Branch United Methodist Church where she served as church organist and Sunday school teacher. After her retirement, she was actively involved as a member of the Nora Lancaster Garden Club, the Woman's Club of Farmville, the Serendipity Club and a volunteer at the Southside Community Hospital gift shop.

Surviving are three brothers, Richard H. Moore and wife, Corinne of Farmville, Vernon L. Moore of Mechanicsville and Robert L. Moore and wife, Maxine of Fredericksburg; two nephews; four nieces; five great-nephews and three great-nieces. Additionally, she has been surrounded with the love, care and support of her late husband's family, sister-in-law, LaNette Glenn Coleman; nephew, Jimmy Coleman and wife, Monica; nieces, Phyllis Mason and husband, Al; Rosa Thomas and husband, Darin, all of Prospect; and Connie Coleman of Lynchburg. She delighted in being the beloved great-aunt to Megan and Joel Thomas and Brooke and Shannon Coleman.

The family will receive friends at Puckett Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31.

Funeral Service will be held at Olive Branch United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 1.
