September 20 – “Do you enjoy life; if so get off the telephone while driving.”

It is that time so please take note and mark your calendars; the Harvest Sale for the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department will be Saturday, October 6. The auction will start at 1 p.m. The bake sale will start at 7 a.m. Once again the yard sale will be from 7 a.m. until noon. Spaces are available to rent – contact Al Mason, 574-6625, for more information. The barbeque supper will start at 4 p.m. Food will be available all day! Anyone having any items to donate to the auction can call Pete Campbell, 547-8722, Al Mason, 574-6625, the firehouse, 574-9911, or any other firefighter to schedule a time to have the items picked up. Consignments will also be accepted for the auction- owner will be responsible for getting these items to the firehouse.

The auxiliary's “Twice is Nice” Children's Consignment Sale will be Friday, Oct. 12, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct, 13, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department, 45 Campbell Hill Road, Prospect. Mrs. Frances Southall and granddaughter Taylor Southall met Mrs. Flora Bolt for lunch Sept. 13 at Merk's. A friend who usually joins them could not because of sickness in the family.

On Saturday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith went to Charlottesville to have lunch and do some shopping.

Mrs. Peggy Simpson Kelsey and granddaughter Debra Sue Shumaker attended the first birthday celebration for Kainoa Tanaka at Lakeside Village in Cumberland. Kainoa is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Tanaka and great-grandson of Mrs. Polly Simpson Duncan.

Mrs. Julia Meadows Shotwell of Richmond visited her parents Mr. and Mrs. Don Meadows on Friday and Saturday.

On Monday Mrs. Brenda Walton of Powhatan and Mrs. Pat Smith were guests in the home of Mrs. Debbie Hearn of Cumberland. The three ladies enjoyed a delicious breakfast prepared by Mrs. Hearn.

Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith hosted the monthly covered dish for the small group from Faith Bible Fellowship. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Al Quinlan, Mr. and Mrs. Richard McClintock and Mrs. Hilda Watson.

Mr. and Mrs. John Fulcher attended pancake supper, fund raiser, for their granddaughter Kristin Fulcher as she gets ready for a mission trip.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stockton visited with Mr. and Mrs. Don Meadows on Sunday afternoon

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Noblin traveled to Chesapeake where they spent Saturday and Sunday with their son, David “Dave” and grandchildren. While there they helped their son celebrate his birthday. Their daughter in-law, Paula, was with her father, Palmer Runnels, in the hospital.

Mrs. Noma Hertzler of Cumberland and Mrs. Pat Smith met for lunch on Tuesday at County Cookin.

Mr. and Mrs. William Amos and daughter Vicki Johns of Amelia enjoyed the week of Sept. 2-8 at Carolina Beach in North Carolina. It was hot but they enjoyed the beach, riding bicycles and relaxing. Mr. Amos and Vicki Johns returned home Sept. 8. Mrs. Amos remained for the next week. She was joined by her daughters, Lisa Newcomb of Pamplin and Barbara McLaughlin of Columbus Ohio. They enjoyed walking on the beach and collecting shells. One day they enjoyed a visit to historic Wilmington. It was a beautiful week with temperatures in the 70s.

On Sept. 13 Mrs. Frances Moore was honored twice that day with birthday celebration. The Lower School and then the Middle School showered her with cards and happy birthday song. Each gave her a large birthday cake. The door to her office was decorated with all sorts of things for her birthday. She had a great time.

Mrs. Flora Bolt visited Mrs. Edna Woodson at Trinity Missions Sept. 12. It was Mrs. Woodson's birthday. She was 80 years young and since she is a diabetic Flora made her a sugar free cake. They enjoyed cake, ice cream and opening of gifts. William Woodson was also present to help his wife celebrate.

On Sept. 16 Mrs. Flora Bolt visited her sister in-law, Mrs. Frances Bolt in Rice. Frances's birthday was Sept. 17. Her daughter, Marsha Bolt from Powhatan; her son Lawrence Bolt of Amelia; nephew, Scott Banton of Washington DC and niece, Lisa Banton and her family of Drakes Branch came to help her celebrate. They brought cake, ice cream, cards and gifts.

Neighbors, family and friends are praying for a speedy recovery for those that are sick at this time; Jean Penick Derrenbacker, Joan Glenn, Jane Crute, and Wanda Whitus.

Neighbors and friends are expressing their sincere sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Johnson and children on the death of her father, Mr. Ted Daves.

Mark your calendars for Calvary Chapel's upcoming indoor yard-sale, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. to support ReNew We Care missionary work.

A 5th Sunday fellowship and dinner will be held on Sunday, Sept. 30, at Prospect United Methodist Church at 4 p.m. Kenny and Angel Spencer will share testimony and music which will be followed by a potluck dinner at 5 p.m. in fellowship hall. Meat and beverages will be provided and you are welcome to bring a side dish or dessert to share. Come and enjoy good music, fellowship and dinner at Prospect UMC which is located on Prospect Road in Prospect.

Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invites everyone to Sunday School at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Chuck Klotzberger will be in the pulpit this Sunday.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday; Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am. They invite you to join them each week on Wednesday evening for Bible Study for all age groups at 7 p.m. Calvary Chapel-Farmville is located at 45 Simpson Road in Prospect, two miles west of Dowdy's Corner just off of US 460.
