SEPTEMBER 27 – Rachel Hope Kelsey McBride, 86, passed into eternal glory on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, in Farmville. Born November 30, 1925, she was the widow of Garland Eugene McBride.
She attended Farmville High School and graduated from State Teachers College, now Longwood University, in 1947. She taught school in Bath and Nottoway Counties, and retired from teaching in Newport News.
In retirement Mr. and Mrs. McBride built a house in Lunenburg County and operated a ceramics shop in Keysville. Mrs. McBride was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church and last served at Appomattox P.E. (Prince Edward) Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by a brother, Carl Kelsey and wife, Sadie of Farmville; sisters, Ruth Simpson of Prospect, Rebecca Newman of Virginia Beach, Helen Breckenridge and husband, Charles of Farmville, and Nancy Williams and husband, Sonny of Newport News; 27 nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Peggy Kelsey of Prospect; and step-children Garland McBride Jr., Kitty McBride Redden, and David McBride. Mrs. McBride was preceded in death by her parents, Philander and Ruby Baldwin Kelsey, brothers, Franklin, Philander Jr., Milton and Raymond Kelsey, and sisters, Libby Welchin, Lucille Gee, and Jean Palmer.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, September 28, at Puckett Funeral Home.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, September 29 at Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church in Prospect, with burial following in the church cemetery.
