Elsie Fulcher, of Farmville, is enjoying a bright red display of Spider Lilies in her yard this year. Sometimes called “surprise lilies, due to their habit of popping up in old yards, gardens, and cemeteries after a good rain in September, the Fulchers' lilies chose to appear next to a stone in the garden inscribed with the following: One is nearer to God's heart in a garden than anywhere else on earth.”
