The Farmville Herald
Editor, The Herald:
On behalf of the Farmville Jaycees, I would like to thank everyone who helped with another great summer of First Fridays events. Most importantly, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to all of our great sponsors. They make the event possible. In no particular order, we would like to thank:
El Patron, John's Lawn Care, RealLiving Cornerstone, Atkins Real Estate, Immigration Centers of America, Keith Barber Construction, Holman Masonry, Edward Jones (Kerby Moore), Honeycutt & McGuire, PC, Awesome Party Supplies, Citizen's Bank and Trust, Ranson's Inc, Benchmark Community Bank, Briery Excavating, Carrington's US Cellular, WFLO, Centra Southside Community Hospital, Creative Electric, Farmer's Bank, Ferguson Enterprises, Fourth Street Motor Company, Blue Ridge Beverage Company, Putney Mechanical, WVHL, Big Dogs, Taylors Septic Services, Days Inn, Kroger, Lewis Tree Service, Inc., JR Tharpe Trucking, Bojangles, Wal-Mart, Lofts @ Worsham School, Walk 2 Campus, W.A. Watson and Sons, Buffalo Wild Wings, Caryn's Bridals, and the Farmville Chamber of Commerce.
While not only supporting us financially, many of our sponsors come out to the events to join in the good time. Please patronize their businesses. These organizations are committed to the town and its quality of life.
But we do not only have our sponsors to thank. The Town of Farmville is just as vital in the whole operation. Robin Atkins and company are at Riverside Park the morning of every event setting up the tents and making sure everything is in place for a great event. After it is over, someone from the Town is always there to help clean-up. They are an amazing group, and we could not pull off the show without their help.
But funding and logistics do not an event, themselves, make. It takes promotion, food, and bands. WVHL, The Farmville Herald, and WFLO are all absolutely wonderful in helping promote our summer of concerts. We even partner with WVHL to incorporate their Texaco Country Showdown into our entertainment line-up. Their support is vital in getting the word out to the community.
Continuing a string of successful, musical summers, 2012 was no exception. We had a fine group of entertainers this year which included the acts Beaches2Bars, Jimmy Buffet Tribute Band, False D'Mitri (who happened to draw our rain date this year), Angie Gail and the Double Cross Band, the Greg and Walt Band, and Central Garage. While you were listening, Farmville Fire Department, Meals on Wheels (who also unfortunately caught the rain this year), Tony Mitchell, Darlington Heights VFD, and Prospect VFD did a wonderful job keeping the crowd fed. We were very glad they could all come on board.
Also, I would like to thank everyone who came out to Riverside Park this summer. The Farmville Jaycees are a civic group, and we put on the event for the people of Farmville and the surrounding area. We want it to be the biggest and best event it can be, and the people that come have a good time with us are what keeps us coming back for more. Let us know how to make it better. We would love to hear any and all feedback. Please email me at hdraymondins@gmail.com. Knowing what we need to accomplish is the first step towards our improvement.
Finally, thanks to all the Jaycees who worked to run the events. We have a great crew of young professional folks who volunteer their time. Hug them should you see them. They have an all-day job keeping me on task. If you are interested in joining the Jaycees, please email me for more information.
Harry A. Dixon
President, Farmville Jaycees
P.S. Surely I have forgotten somebody. I am very thankful to you also, and I will thank you in person when I see you.
