On Aug. 31 at the home of Lee and Beth Woodruff on High Street in Farmville, a Friends of the Appomattox River social was held replete with succulent appetizers which preceded a pork barbecue dinner. Twenty-five or more members, guests and friends attended the gathering. Prior to this social event, members kayaked or canoed at Wilck's Lake where they enjoyed the serenity and shimmer of light on the water and the sounds of kingfishers and great blue heron in the background.
