NRA Makes 4-H Grant

Prince Edward 4-H recently received a grant from the Friends of the NRA Foundation to expand youth shooting education programs. In Virginia, 4-H youth programs receive the largest amount of funding given by the organization. Locally, the grant funds were used to purchase .22 rifles, ammunition, hearing protection, and targets for youth participating in the shooting education club, led by Dr. Dan Kingsley. Dr. Kingsley, like all 4-H shooting education instructors, was required to participate in an intensive instructors' training program. All 4-H youth shooting education programs focus on teaching youth to handle firearms in a safe and responsible manner. 4-H is currently recruiting additional members and instructors. If interested in participating, please contact the Prince Edward Extension Office at 392-4246. The Heart of Virginia Friends of the NRA Chapter will hold a fundraising banquet Sept. 15 at the STEPS Center. Proceeds will benefit youth shooting education programs. Tickets are available at Dr. Kingsley's office, Ayers Building Supply, or by calling Jennifer Bowen at 392-4246.
