DELAWARE, Aug. 14 – Irene S. Clay, 89, of Middletown, DE, formerly of Farmville, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at her home. She immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1952.
She retired as a bank teller with Delaware Trust after 20 years of service. She was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church, and a member of the Delaware Chapter of the German American Club. Mrs. Clay loved to oil paint and exercise, was an excellent cook and seamstress, and enjoyed gardening and knitting. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Her husband, Charles S. Clay, died in 2005.
Mrs. Clay is survived by her children, Michael C. Clay (Altha), Deborah White-Boone (Dan), and George S. Clay; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 17 at 7 p.m. at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway at Duncan Road where friends may call after 6 p.m.
