Eagles Win Five Region Track Events; Walton Sets Record

Note: The following is a weekly update produced by the Prince Edward County High School Athletics Department for the Farmville Herald.

The Prince Edward County High School boys track team finished fourth as a team in the Region I Track Championship held on Thursday afternoon at Culpepper High School.

The Eagles tallied 60 points, and individually, team members took Region I titles in five different events.

Leading the way for the Eagles was senior Rashaad Walton. He tallied thirty points for the meet. Walton won the long jump and set a Region I record in the process with a leap of 23-feet-and-two-inches.

Additionally, he won the 100m and 200m Dashes with times of 10.96 and 22.0 seconds, respectively.

Senior Tyrek Goode won the Shot Put with a throw of 50-feet-and-6.5-inches. He also placed sixth in the Discus at 126-feet-and-nine-inches.

Isiah Davis a junior won the Discus on his last throw. He threw for a distance of 139-feet-and-nine-inches.

Also earning a trip to the state meet was junior Marquiz Fitzgerald, whose time of 15.58 in the 110m Hurdles put him in third place.

The only girl from Prince Edward to earn a trip to the state meet was junior Pashion Banks.

Her jump of 32-feet-and-9.25 inches was good for fifth place.

The girls 4×100 Relay Team comprised of Banks, De-Lantra Nash, Lucia Davis, and Eunity Woodard, placed sixth, but only the top three relay teams advance to the state meet.

The Group AA State will be held at Harrisonburg High School on Friday and Saturday.

Tennis

The Prince Edward County High School boys and girls tennis teams finished first in the Southside District on the season, and earned the right to host matches in the first round of the Region I Tournament.

The boys team, which was undefeated in Southside District play, hosted York High School of the Bay Rivers District last week, and fell 5-2.

The girls tennis team finished the regular season with one loss in Southside District play, and hosted Lafayette High School last week in its Regional Tournament Quarterfinal match. The PE girls team lost 5-0 to the Bay Rivers District power.

For the boys, Asim Brooks and Keiston France won their singles matches. While the teams have been eliminated from further competition, Brooks and Rose Hargrave were to play in Williamsburg on Memorial Day in singles competition, and Ryan Stewart joins Brooks in doubles for the Region 1 Championships.
