Sigma Nu Fraternity and the SHARC club at Hampden-Sydney College are organizing two events in April to raise money for Service Dogs of Virginia, the group from which Colin Werth will be getting his service dog Theo (a black labrador) in June. Colin, has muscular dystrophy and uses a wheelchair. Theo has been trained to work/assist specifically with people in wheelchairs.
On Saturday, April 14, at 1 p.m. there will be a community dog walk starting at Kirby Field at Hampden-Sydney College. The cost is $10 per dog and all proceeds will go to Service Dogs of Virginia. For more information, contact Julia Palmer jpalmer@hsc.edu or Alex Werth awerth@hsc.edu. On Thursday, April 19, at 8 p.m. in Johns Auditorium there will be a HSC's Got Talent Night program for everyone in the community. Tickets are $7 at the door or may be purchased in advance by e-mailing Julia Palmer at jpalmer@hsc.edu. Come enjoy a variety of group and solo performances by members of community. All proceeds will go to Service Dogs of Virginia. If you cannot attend either event but would like to help, you may donate directly to Service Dogs of Virginia (indicate that your donation is part of a fundraiser for Colin Werth) or send a check made out to Service Dogs of Virginia to Julia Palmer, P.O. Box 177, Hampden-Sydney College 23943.
