Heart of Virginia Soccer Club U-14 boys team was crowned champions of the Liberty University Soccer Mania indoor league. Competition included area middle schools as well as premier teams from Central Virginia United Soccer Club (Lynchburg). Members of the team are: Josh Buczek, Connor Burke, Jordon Conwell, Rafael Dimaano, Johnathon Kelly, Tony Neathery, Domonic Reinson, Niko Reinson, Chaney Sheehan, Colton Sheehan, Ricky Solorio and coaches Alex Spirn and Bob Buczek. Indoor soccer is a slightly different game than traditional outdoor soccer. The ball can be played off of the walls and in this league there is no offside penalty. The pace of the game is also faster.
“We promote indoor soccer as a way of staying in shape during the off season,” said Spirn. “The game is very quick, so speed and endurance are essential. Good footwork and accurate passing are essential to success in the indoor arena.”
“Last year our team was closer to the middle of the pack,” said HOVA club president Bob Burke. “This year, we dominated the league. It is a testament to the quality of our players.”
Heart of Virginia Soccer Club teams participate in the SOCA Skyline outdoor league both fall and spring. Indoor soccer is an optional activity offered during off season, in winter and in summer. (Submitted Photo)
