MEHERRIN, Feb. 9 – Roy Alexander Bowling, 85, of Meherrin, passed away Monday, February 6, 2012 in Farmville. He was born July 31, 1926 in West Virginia to the late Paris Bee and Emma Nisewander Bowling.
He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved spending time with his grandchildren and his animals. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Bowling is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Mary Sexton Bowling; son, Thomas Bowling Sr. of Pamplin and wife, Shirley of Norfolk; daughter, Gwendolyn Bowling Stone and husband, Duane of Keysville; three sisters, Mildred Morgan of Claytor Lake, Phyllis Phillips and Mary Alice Bishop, both of Princeton, WV; grandchildren, Joshua Stone, Jacob Stone, Elizabeth Erich and Thomas Bowling Jr. and his four great-grandchildren, Bobby Dunn, Zachary Stone, Alexis Brewer and Everett Erich. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Linda Sue Bowling and numerous siblings.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 9, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Puckett Funeral Home with interment to follow in Virginia Veteran's Cemetery in Amelia at 2:30 p.m.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, February 8, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
