Blanche Allen Gilliam, 91

PAMPLIN, Feb. 28 – Our Granny, Blanche Allen Gilliam, 91, of Pamplin, passed away peacefully Friday, February 24, 2012. She was born June 9, 1920 to the late David Coleman and Lucille Adams Allen. She graduated from Madisonville High School and was married for 48 years to a WWII veteran, L. Walker Gilliam, whom preceded her in death.

She was a member of Cullen Baptist and Bethpeor Baptist Church. Mrs. Gilliam was retired from Leggett's of Farmville as a sales clerk and worked at Hampden-Sydney College in the Tiger Inn. She loved working with her flowers and she was an exceptional cook.

Mrs. Gilliam is survived by a son, Llew W. Gilliam Jr. of Pamplin; daughter, Page G. Hardy and husband, John of Farmville; brothers, Clyde J. Allen and wife, Katherine of Forest, and Garnett Allen and wife, Mary Jane of Charlotte Court House; grandchildren, Karen Atkins and husband, Brian, Sarah Dowdy and husband, Brad, L.W. Gilliam, III and wife, Renee, Jason Lehman and wife, Denita, James Lehman, Jeremy Lehman and wife, Jessica, Joseph Lehman and wife, Karen and Jessica Aliff and husband, Nolan; great-grandchildren, Blake and Mary Page Tharpe, Drew and Tori Dowdy, Thomas Atkins, future great-grandson, Landon Gilliam, Lauren, Brianna, Ryan, Madison, Zoe, Cheyene and Jackson Lehman, Chelsea, Alexis, Trinity Aliff, and Caleb Wade and special friends and caretakers, Allen and Michelle Yoder, Rebecca and Dora and all the other staff.

A funeral service was held on Monday, February 27 at Bethpeor Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethpeor Baptist Church, Bethpeor Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, American Diabetes Association or to the Darlington Heights Volunteer Fire Department.
