Auditions Set for Almost, Maine
Published 2:52 pm Tuesday, January 3, 2012
The Waterworks Players next production is Almost, Maine. Written by actor John Cariani, Almost, Maine is an award-winning comedy about the romantic happenings one cold night in northern Maine. Comprised of nine vignettes, the Wall Street Journal calls the play “A comic romantic roundelay.” The New York Post describes the work as “Thornton Wilder crossed with 'The Twilight Zone.' When the northern lights appear in the sky and the characters shine with the joyfulness of love, it's hard not to believe that the wintry air of northern Maine isn't the cure for heartache.”
The play is set in the remote mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost's residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend – almost – in this delightful midwinter night's dream.
Auditions will be held at 7:30 pm on Sunday and Monday, January 8 & 9 at the Waterworks Theater. The cast may number as few as four actors playing numerous roles in all nine of the short plays or as many as 19 actors spread across the script. Waterworks Players are looking for actors and actresses from mid-20s to mid-60s. The show runs February 10, 11, 17 and 18 at 8pm.
