NEW CANTON, Jan. 24 – Albert Irvin Smith, 78, of New Canton, died Monday, January 23, 2012 at his home. He was the son of the late Edward Eugene and Myrtle Wharam Smith. He was the widower of Irene Call Smith and was also preceded in death by two sons, Robert Irvin Smith and Steve Allen Smith.

Mr. Smith is survived by a daughter, Deborah Halbohn of Dillwyn; two sons, Wayne Smith of New Canton and Mike Smith of Arvonia; three brothers, Nick Smith of Buckingham, Billy Smith and Paul Smith, both of New Canton; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 26, at 11 a.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home with interment in the Bucking-ham Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 25, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
