Michele Bachmann's campaign did its best to explain it all away.

“We wouldn't have an American embassy in Iran” if she were president, Ms. Bachmann told a crowd in Waverly, Iowa, in the wake of Iranian rioters storming the British embassy in Tehran.

The United States hasn't had an embassy in Iran in more than 30 years.

Really, folks, we do live a great society if we can aspire to be president without possessing even a fundamental knowledge of what we're talking about.

And Congresswoman Bachmann, seeking the Republican nomination, is a member of the House Select Committee On Intelligence.

That begs a question.

Whose intelligence?

Well, when it rains it rains on us all, regardless of embassy awareness, and if Rep. Bachmann had been in Farmville this fall it would have rained on her, too, whether she knew what she was talking about or not.

As this month began, rainfall during the second half of the year had already overcome a substantial precipitation deficit, according to WFLO's John Wilson, thanks in no small measure to the 8.89 inches of rain that fell in October. November saw rainfall exceed the monthly norm by one and one quarter inches.

We are grateful for the rainfall, as we are grateful to live in a country where you don't have to have a Ph.D to run for president.

You don't even have to know how to spell Ph.D.
