Martha Elizabeth Morris Childress, “Dolly”, 83

DARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Dec. 22 – Martha Elizabeth Morris Childress, “Dolly”, 83, of Darlington Heights was called home Wednesday, December 21, 2011. She was born May 14, 1928 in Darlington Heights to the late Lawrence Edward and Elizabeth Sue Bailey Morris.

She worked at several different companies including, Vepco in Richmond, Darlington Heights Post Office, Prince Edward County Extension Agency and Prince Edward Academy. Mrs. Childress also loved catering and cooking for people and was an avid volunteer and community leader. She held fundraisers for numerous organizations.

Mrs. Childress was a charter member of the Darlington Heights Volunteer Fire Department as well as a member of the Auxiliary. She was also a member of Just-A-Mere Homemakers Club, Mutual Investment Club, Worsham Baptist Church and was currently attending Buffalo Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband, Clinton Atwood Childress; son, Rodger Morris Childress and wife, Laura Blankenship Childress; daughter, Betty Childress Tinsley and husband, Dallas Tinsley; grandson, Jason Dallas Tinsley and wife, Reannan Lester Tinsley; granddaughters, Jessica McCormick and Samantha Hudson and husband, Brian and great-grandchildren, Corbin Dallas Tinsley, Joshua Bieler, Chloe`, Chase and Bryson Hudson. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Edward, William Rodger and Albert Hale Morris.

A funeral service will be held Friday, December 23, at 1 p.m. at Spring Creek Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends Thursday, December 22, (tonight) from 6-8 p.m. at Puckett Funeral Home.
