DECEMBER 20 – Eleanor Weddle Bobbitt, widow of Robert “Bob” Bobbitt, died at home on Wednesday, December 14, 2011. She was born October 2, 1928, the daughter of the late Walter Arthur and Mary Kingery Weddle.

Most recently she was manager of the Heart of Virginia-Olde Farmers Market. She received her B.S. from Longwood College, M.S. from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Prof. Bobbitt retired from Longwood College after 38 years in 1992 as Professor Emeriti of Physical Education where she served as Program Director. She was Senior Faculty Marshall; member of the Longwood Foundation; President of the Longwood Council; Class Sponsor in 1958 and 1962; chair of the President's Advisory Committee; Advisor to: Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity; Honors Council; GEIST; Delta Psi Kappa; and Chair of the NCATE Faculty Committee.

She was president of the following: Virginia Association for PHERD and its executive director; SD-AAHPERD; National Delta Psi Kappa; Delta Kappa Gamma, Psi Chapter; and the Weyanoke Garden Club.

Her honors include the faculty recognition award; honor awards from VAHPERD and SD-AAHPERD and the Distinguished Alumni Service Award from Longwood.

She was a member of Johns Memorial Episcopal Church, where she served as Senior Warden. She volunteered for Hospice of Central Virginia, Prince Edward Elementary School, and Southside Community Hospital.

She is survived by sisters-in-law, Betty Weddle of Roanoke, Katie Marie Weddle of Elliston, Joyce M. Bobbitt and Joy O. Bobbitt of Henderson, NC; 40 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at Johns Memorial Episcopal Church on December 17. The Very Rev. Christopher T. Cunningham, Rector of Johns Memorial Episcopal Church, officiated. Burial followed in the Sunset Hill Cemetery in Littleton, NC.
