New Cumberland High School head boys basketball coach Keith White will have to wait a little longer to coach the Dukes in his varsity debut.
According to a press release released by Cumberland athletics, White has been hospitalized since Sunday, and remained in the hospital as of Wednesday afternoon – the same day Cumberland opened its season at rival Prince Edward.
“While Keith has some recovery ahead, he is strong and in good spirits,” said CHS athletics director Matthew Pearman. “He, his wife Cathy, his children and the Cumberland Dukes family are very appreciative of all the thoughts, prayers and concerns.”
While White is recovering, Tyrone Mosby will assume the role of interim head coach. Mosby was the head boys basketball coach at Cumberland from 2006-2010, and led the Dukes to a pair of Region B Tournament appearances, before serving as an assistant coach at Hampden-Sydney College in 2010-11.
“We're thankful for Tyrone's willingness to step back into a leadership role in our program while Keith recovers. His experience and knowledge, along with the efforts of [first-year JV coach] Markel Jones, will ensure that our program is able to continue at a high level until Keith is able to return.
“Although there is no timetable set for his return to the court, White does plan to rejoin the team when he is healthy.”
