Betty Lou Moore, 78

RICHMOND, Dec. 13 – Betty Lou Southall Moore, 78, of Richmond, went to live with the Lord on Saturday, December 10, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on March 31, 1933 near Farmville.

Mrs. Moore graduated from Worsham High School in Keysville and Longwood College in 1954, where she earned a B.S. in Chemistry. After graduation she taught high school science in Manassas. She worked for a while as a general chemist for Larus and Brother Company in Richmond before returning to teach high school chemistry and general science at Midlothian High School in Midlothian.

Mrs. Moore retired in 1964 to focus on her career as a loving wife and mother to her two daughters. She loved nature and took great pride in managing her tree farm near Hampden Sydney College. Family was extremely important to her and she spent countless hours tracing her family tree and studying genealogy.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Adron Durant Moore; two daughters, Vicki Lou Moore Finn of Beaverton, Oregon and Traci Janel Moore Haise of Westfield, New Jersey; two sons-in-law, Kevin Finn and Jeff Haise; and two granddaughters, Jessica Louise Finn and Rebecca Adrienne Finn. She was preceded in death by her father, Claude Jones Southall and her mother, Lou Johnson Southall of Farmville.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, December 16, from 6-8 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home, Midlothian.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 17 at Crestwood Presbyterian Church, Richmond. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery, Farmville, at 2 p.m.

Contributions may be made to Crestwood Presbyterian Church Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
