Velma Minor Flippen

CUMBERLAND, Nov. 15 – Velma Minor Flippen, 97, of Cumberland County died in Henrico on Sunday, November 13, 2011. She was born on July 5, 1914 in Cumberland County, the daughter of the late Charles S. and Lola Bagby Miner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Ayers Flippen.

Mrs. Flippen was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 79 years, the Powhatan Chapter #146. She taught in the public schools of Virginia for over 43 years. Also, she was a life member of Tar Wallet Baptist Church in Cumberland.

She is survived by a niece, Barbara Richards of Henrico; great-niece, Renee Dolan (Patrick) of Glen Allen; great-nephews, Robert James Richards Jr. (Violet) and Frank Flippen of Virginia Beach; great-great-nephews, Connor and Ryan Dolan; great-great-nieces, Kiley Dolan, Asheton Richards, Jennifer Neal an Rachael Spain.

The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses of Westport Center for the support and care of their loved one.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 16, from 6-8 p.m. at Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, November 17, from Tar Wallet Baptist Church in Cumberland at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Tommy Reynolds conducting. Interment follows in the Grove Cemetery, Route 13 at Sunnyside.

Remembrances in her memory may be made to Tar Wallet Baptist Church, Cumberland.
