NEW CANTON, Nov. 17 – Roger Lemuel Thomas, 71, of New Canton, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at his home. He was the husband of the late Martha Ann Ferguson Thomas.

Born in Buckingham County April 20, 1940, he was the son of the late Morris Lemuel Thomas and Grace Pearl Lesuer Thomas. He was a retired slate maker with Lesuer Richmond Slate Quarry.

Surviving are his children, Cheryl Epps of Ashland, Debbie Epps of Tappahannock, Darnell Thomas of Richmond and Cathy Thomas of Kentucky; brother, Bobby Earl Thomas of New Canton; grandchildren, Brandy Epps, Jade Epps and Olivia Epps; five great-grandchildren and two close first cousins, Claude Toney of Buckingham and Melvin Toney of Richmond.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 3, in the Dunkum Funeral Home Chapel.
