BUCKINGHAM COUNTY, Oct. 4 – William “Bill” F. Brown, 81, of Buckingham County died Saturday, October 1, 2011 in Farmville. He was born July 9, 1930 in Spring Lake, North Carolina, the only child of the late William Franklin and Nellie Griffin Brown.

Mr. Brown dedicated years of service in the United States Marine Corp and served in combat during the Korean War. He retired from Longwood College in 1994 and dedicated his time to Smyrna United Methodist Church and many community services.

He is survived by a son, James “Jimmy” Marshall Brown of Buckingham; a daughter, Mary Brown Farrish of Buckingham; three grandchildren, Leigh Ann Brown, James Franklin Brown and William Michael Brown and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy Ayers Brown.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, October 4, at Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery.
