High Bridge Trail State Park expands its summer programs all the way into autumn this year with an autumn foliage identification and educational walk on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 1:30 pm.

Park volunteer and Chesterfield County Science teacher, Michael Strange will lead one-mile walk from the River Road access, pointing out some of the many spectacular native plants and animals that call the park home and collecting some of our spectacular fall colors for a leaf identification seminar.

Learn about many of the native trees and shrubs that you can find along the trail and learn to create a simple method for identifying trees anywhere you go. Also, learn about how to spot the differences between many of the spectacular native species and their invasive look-alikes present on the park. Also, keep your eyes open to learn about some of the many butterflies, bees, birds and mammals that call the park home and some of the migratory species currently using the trail as a stopover right now. At the end of the walk, Michael will share tips on how to develop a hand-held tree identification key that you can use anywhere on the east coast to figure out a tree's identity by certain identifying characteristics.
