Falcons Blanked On The Road

Following a 28-0 loss at Fredericksburg Christian on Friday, the Fuqua School football team has a pretty good idea on two of the better teams in the Virginia Independent Schools Division III rankings.

Fuqua was unable to crack a strong Fredericksburg Christian defense that has not given up a point since the first week of the season.

“They're good,” said FS head coach Lewis “Skeeter” Fore. “It's only their third year of football, but they've beaten the bushes and have brought in some really tough ball players.”

Fuqua trailed 7-0 at the end of the quarter, and 21-0 at intermission. The Falcons' best chance to score came on a long pass from Carter Cunningham to Charles Williams, which moved the Falcons to the Eagles' five, but Fuqua was unable to take advantage of the big play, and actually moved backward on some offensive miscues.

Fuqua gave up one touchdown in a quickly played second half.

Things will get no easier for the Falcons as they prepare to travel to Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot.

“It's another tough game in a stretch of tough games,” said Fore. “We've got to keep working to get better, and hopefully we can also get some of our injured players back.”

Though Friday's game is a big one in terms of conference standing, the Falcons' two most critical games will come afterward against Roanoke Catholic and Hampton Christian.

“The way it looks right now, Roanoke Catholic, Hampton Christian and us are fighting for two playoff spots, with the odd-man out missing the playoffs. It's going to be a long stretch of tough games, and hopefully we can be up to the challenge.”

Fuqua's game at Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot will kickoff at 7 p.m.
