Usually when coaches talk about being able to see what's going to happen on Friday night based on the week of practice leading up to the game, they're thinking in negatives.

That wasn't the case for Prince Edward, which according to head coach James Ford had its best week of practice leading up to last Friday's game at Brunswick. He was proven to be right as the Eagles dominated the Bulldogs for a 38-14 victory.

“It's starting to come together,” said Ford. “You can see the kids are becoming more confident in their assignments, and that split second they don't have to think things through is really starting to show up.”

Prince Edward had led 12-0 at the intermission. Junior quarterback Davon Adams completed a 46-yard touchdown pass to James Jones to put the Eagles up 6-0 on the first drive of the game. Ralick Lockett later scored on a 15-yard touchdown run to put the Eagles up by two scores at halftime.

PE went up 19-0 on a 47-yard touchdown run by Jakeem Eddins, but Brunswick ran the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown to cut PE's lead to 19-6.

The swing in momentum for Brunswick didn't last long, as Lockett scored his second touchdown of the game for a 48-yard touchdown to put the Eagles up 26-6.

Lockett then returned an interception for a touchdown, and Rashaad Walton capped the scoring with a 79-yard touchdown.

Brunswick added a late touchdown after the game was well in-hand to bring the game to its final score.

“The defense played really, really well,” said Ford. “We stopped their veer option, and kept their offense from scoring until very late in the game.”

Adams was 7-12 for 104 yards and a touchdown, but threw three interceptions. Lockett led the Eagles in rushing with 91 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. Eddins had 61 yards and a touchdown on six carries. As a team, PE picked up 257 rushing yards on 27 plays.

Tyrek Goode led the Eagles on defense with eight tackles (seven solo), while Walter Christmas had eight (four solo) and Lockett had six with an interception returned for a touchdown. Also recording interceptions were Cleon Watkins (two), James Jones (two) and Walton. Milton Monk, also recovered a fumble.

All totalled, PE's defense caused seven Brunswick turnovers.

“It all just clicked. We had a really good week of practice,” said Ford. “Our Wednesday practice went so well, we were able to do a full walkthrough on Thursday. The kids are really excited.

Prince Edward will host Greensville at 7:30 on Friday. Greensville knocked off preseason district favorite Southampton two weeks ago, before falling to George Wythe of Richmond last week.
