BUCKINGHAM ― Youth in the elementary to middle grades are invited to a themed tea party, Sunflowers and Sandwiches, on Saturday, October 22, at 2:30, at the Buckingham County Public Library.

Along with learning about how afternoon tea became a British tradition, the guests will sample a number of tea sandwiches along with fruit flavored teas.

There will also be a story about social graces and good habits to practice at a tea party.

Of course, there will also be time to create a flower ornament for a tea party hat, and learn a little about some famous sunflower paintings-all part of the library's “S” focused programming.

Call 983-3848 to register. According to Joyce Nelson, branch manager for the Buckingham Library, they will repeat the program if a significant number cannot be accommodated on Saturday.

In November, the library will focus on the letter “C” and the theme will be Crumpets and Children.

Relay for Life Kick-Off

The Relay for Life of Buckingham Kick-off Telethon will be held on Saturday, October 22, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

At that time, Relay for Life volunteers will be at Food Lion in Dillwyn to register teams and sell luminaries. They will also be accepting donations for the Buckingham Relay.

Additionally, Relay volunteers will host a call-in telethon on that day. You'll be able to call (434) 983-2503 to pledge money to benefit The American Cancer Society. Callers pledging $10 or more will be entered into a drawing for concert tickets to see Lady Antebellum, Luke Bryan and Rascal Flatts. Please do not call the number until the date and time announced to make your pledge.

Hatcher Baptist Presents The Kabin Kritters

Well it appears that the Kabin Kritters, puppets that perform a human ministry at Hatcher, are eager to celebrate fall.

On Sunday, October 23, the Kritters are hosting a Kids Karnival-for kids of all ages. The event begins at 6 p.m. and will include three skits and music by the Kritters.

After the program, the Karnival will offer all kinds of games and activities along with door prizes. There's also going to be a Kid's Kupcake Kontest, so bring your own special cupcake to enter.

Everyone is invited. Hatcher Baptist Church is located at the corner of Gravel Hill Road, Route 617, and Trents Mill Road, Route 622.

Glenmore VFD Turkey Shoots

Those Glenmore Firefighters are hosting their annual Turkey Shoots. The events are planned for each Friday night in October, which means you only have two more shoots-October 21 and 28. Starting time is 7 p.m.

Only 12 gauge shotguns are permitted; and, no sleeved guns are allowed.

Proceeds benefit the Glenmore Volunteer Fire Department-you know, that dedicated group of volunteers who respond when we need them. Glenmore VFD is located Route 740, at 179 Fire House Road, near the intersection of Route 655 and 602, near Downtown Glenmore.

Breast Cancer Awareness Breakfast

Central Virginia Health Services, Inc. and the Central Virginia Community Health Center are hosting a Breast Cancer Awareness Breakfast on Tuesday, October 25, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the CVHS Conference Room. The CVHS building is the one located in the lower level paring lot at Central Virginia Community Health Center, on Route 15 in New Canton.

All breast cancer survivors and friends are invited to attend.

Fall Festival at Chestnut Grove

Chestnut Grove Baptist Church is hosting its Fall Festival and you're invited.

This great afternoon of fall fun is planned for Saturday, October 29, beginning at 3 p.m.

The festival includes hayrides, activities for the entire family, and an opportunity to check out a real fire truck. Kids are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes. And, a hot dog supper will be provided.

Chestnut Grove Baptist Church is located off Route 636, Francisco Road, on Route 612, Chestnut Grove Road.

Harvest Festival at Sheppards

<!– 1upcrlf2 –>The Harvest Festival at Sheppards will be hosted at Concord Baptist Church on Saturday, October 29, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Activities will include games, a moon-bounce, barrel train rides, and hayrides. This fun-filled day for kids of all ages will also include craft exhibits, a bake sale, and food.

The Harvest Festival at Sheppards is a joint effort sponsored by Smyrna United Methodist Church, New Store Presbyterian Church, and Concord Baptist Church.

Please note that later in the evening at 5 p.m., there will be free Brunswick stew and a Trunk-or-Treat event.

Curious Corner Store

The Woman's Club of Buckingham County is gearing-up for its annual fundraiser, the Curious Corner Store.

Celebrating its 31st year, Curious Corner Store will open on Saturday, October 29. Although the store will be closed on Sunday, it will reopen on Monday, October 31 and run through Thursday, November 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, at the VFW Hall on Route 60, west of Sprouses Corner.

Curious Corner features good used clothing and miscellaneous household items. Rada knives and fresh pecans will be available. You'll also be able to place orders for freshly made Christmas wreaths for the holidays. The inventory also includes fresh baked goods, and jams and jellies.

Lunch will be served each day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. You'll be able to dine at the store or have your order prepared for take-out.

Get curious about Curious Corner Store and stop by for a visit. There's something for everyone. And, proceeds allow the WCBC to continue its good works in this community.

Spooky Hollow Drive-Thru

Yes, all you Halloween thrill seekers-the Spooky Hollow Drive-Thru will be waiting for you on Saturday, October 29, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Hosted by Historic Buckingham, Inc., this ghostly fundraiser is held at the Historic Village at Lee Wayside, just off Route 60 at Lee Wayside.

Trunk or Treat at Mt. Zion

Mt Zion Baptist Church is hosting a Trunk-or-Treat on Sunday, October 30, beginning at 6 p.m.

Along with all the great edible goodies, there will be a time of Praise and Worship let by Pastor Wayne Tyree.

Everyone is invited. Mt. Zion Baptist Church is located on Route 610 at 6277 Cartersville Road in New Canton.

BCVRS Fright Night Boo Thru

The Buckingham County Volunteer Rescue Squad is hosting its Fright Night Boo Thru on Friday, October 28, from 8 p.m. to midnight; and on Saturday, October 29, from 7 p.m. to midnight.

You'll be able to drive through for a $10 donation per car to the BCVRS. However, as the spokesperson warned, “Beware of what is hiding in the dark.”

The BCVRS Fright Night Boo Thru will take place at the Dillwyn Squad Building located off Route 15 at 222 Wingo Road.

Children's Trick or Treat

On Sunday, October 30, from 3 to 5 p.m., the Buckingham County Volunteer Rescue Squad is hosting a Trick or Treat at the Dillwyn Squad Building. There will be games and candy. And, at 4 p.m., there will be a costume contest for the children.

Arvon Baptist Church Fall Concert Program

On Sunday, October 30, at 6 p.m., Arvon Baptist Church is hosting a fall concert program featuring Barry Snoddy and Brian.

The evening promises great music and fellowship. After the concert, Pastor Troy and the Arvon Baptist Church family invite you to join with them for refreshments. Arvon Baptist Church is located on Route 15.

BCHS Career and College Information

Buckingham County High School is hosting a Knight's Quest for Career and College Information event on Thursday, November 10, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

According to the BCHS Guidance Department, “It's never too early to learn this important information, so bring your son or daughter, no matter what age.” For more information, contact the guidance department at 969-6160.

Straight Street Fall Bazaar

Straight Street-Buckingham is hosting a Fall Bazaar on November 4 and 5; and again the following weekend on November 11 and 12 at the Straight Street building located on Route 20.

During its operation, the Bazaar will be open on Fridays, November 4 and 11, from 12 noon to 6 p.m.; and on Saturdays, November 5 and 12, from 7 a.m. to noon.

Individuals, churches, or organizations interested in selling food, yard sale items, or other goods may rent a space for $25 for both weekends.

BAS Craft Fair

Attention artisans, crafters, and shoppers, Buckingham Active Seniors invites you to participate in its inaugural craft fair scheduled for Saturday, November 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the VFW Hall on Route 60.
