The 51st Annual Harvest Sale will be held at the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department on October 1. The events will start at 7 a.m. with a Yard Sale; Bake Sale will also start at 7 a.m. The auction begins at 1 p.m. with dinner starting at 4 p.m. Come out and give your support to the Prospect Volunteer Firemen.

The Farmville/Prince Edward Historical Society held its September meeting Sept. 21 at the Farmville Train Station. Bob Flippen the Americorps Volunteer at High Bridge State Park was the guest speaker. He spoke to an overflowing crowd on the construction of the first High Bridge. He has obtained the glass negatives taken by Mr. Willis W. Vail and shared them with the Farmville/Prince Edward Historical Society members and their visitors. This was a very informative meeting.

The Prospect Historical Society will hold its October meeting Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m at the Prospect Fire House. They will be making plans for their annual “Election Day Stew.” They welcome all.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Meadows (Betty) spent last week at Nag's Head, North Carolina with a number of friends. The weather and fellowship was outstanding.

Mrs. Julia Shotwell and son, Zack visited with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Meadows (Betty) on Sunday. Zack also took a tour of Longwood University. He is looking at Longwood for next year.

Mrs. Sadie Kelsey attended the Fall Gathering of the Presbyterian Women of the Presbytery of the Peaks held in Salem Sept. 24.

Those gathering for lunch Sept. 25 at Buffalo Wild Wings were Mrs. Flora Bolt, Mr. and Mrs. Steve (Terri) Bolt and Brandon; Mr. and Mrs. Billy (Polly) Mottley; Nicky Bolt Murdock and daughter Payden; Jason Johnson; and Mr. and Mrs. David (Ashley) Paquette.

Mrs. Peggy Kelsey attended the funeral for Mrs. Mamie McClenny at Pisgah Baptist Church in Rice.

The Special Blessings of Glenn Memorial Baptist Church in Prospect visited Centra Southside Hospital Sept. 26. They delivered baby blankets they had made for the OB Ward. After delivering the blankets, they were given a tour on the ward. Those delivering the blankets and later enjoying lunch at Merk's Place were Shirley Fulcher, Shirley Motley, Evelyn Shelton, Linda Franklin and Jeannette Tarlton.

The Prospect Happy Hats celebrated their 7th birthday Sept. 27 at Merk's Place. Those enjoying the fellowship, good food and a beautiful birthday cake made by Dennis Merkle were; Lorraine Chapman, hostess for the meeting; Edith Vaughan, Joyce Floyd, Margaret Stockton, Betty Meadows, Hilda Allen, Edwina Covington, Pat Smith, Sandra Leonard, and Ann Norton.

Family, friends and neighbors are sending special get well wishes to all those who are sick at this time.

Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invites everyone to Sunday School at 10 a.m. with Worship at 11 a.m. Rev. Chuck Klotzberger will be back with them this Sunday, holding Holy Communion. There will be a dedication service as they dedicate a new altar cross in memory of Ray Kelsey. Ray was a long time worker in the church.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday; Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with Worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Willie Thompson will fill the pulpit on Sunday and preside over Holy Communion.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. They invite you to join them each week on Wednesday evening for Bible Study for all age groups at 7 p.m. Calvary Chapel-Farmville is located at 45 Simpson Road in Prospect, two miles west of Dowdy's Corner just off of US 460.
