BUCKINGHAM ― If you haven't headed to the kitchen to fix dinner-DON'T. Instead, gather up the family and/or friends and head to Woodland United Methodist Church for a spaghetti dinner and music.
On Friday, September 23, beginning at 6:30 p.m., Woodland UMC is hosting a fundraiser.
The evening features a baked spaghetti dinner with sides. After the meal, the James River Cut-Ups, from Nelson County, will perform.
Donations will be gratefully accepted for the meal. Woodland UMC is located just off Route 56 on Woodland Church Road.
Mt Zion Baptist Church is continuing its fun-filled tradition of hosting a free Fall Festival.
This year's event is scheduled for Saturday, September 24, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Festivities include games and activities, live music, hayrides, food, cotton candy, snow cones, and prizes.
Yep, and, it's all free. Everyone is invited to join with the folks at Mt. Zion Baptist Church for a great day.
The church is located off Route 15 on Route 610, Cartersville Road, in New Canton.
Okay all you members of the BCHS Class of 1981, it's time to celebrate the passing of 30 years. Yep, it really has been that long since you left those hallowed halls.
Some of your classmates have been working on plans for a festive evening that offers an opportunity to reunite, celebrate and commemorate the good old days, while renewing friendships.
A Knight to Remember is planned for Saturday, October 1, from 6:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., at the Farmville Train Station. Cost is $35 per person. Your check or money order, made payable to BCHS Class of 1981, should be on its way ASAP to Carolyn Eldridge West, P. O. Box 31, Dillwyn, VA.
On Friday night, September 30, after the BCHS homecoming game, plans include a meet and greet at the Depot Restaurant, on Route 15 in Dillwyn.
Okay, it's been 30 years so why not come home and join with your former classmates for the BCHS Homecoming and your 30th Year Reunion.
Buckingham County High School will be offering the PSAT on Wednesday, October 12, to students who are planning to apply to a four-year college when they are seniors.
The PSAT helps students practice for the SAT, one of two types of assessments that colleges require for admission.
According to Sue Miles, guidance counselor at BCHS, taking the PSAT is especially important for students currently in grades 10 and 11.
BCHS only offers the PSAT one time a year. Cost is $15. Students must register with the guidance department no later than Wednesday, October 5. Please note that payment is required at the time of registration.

The Line Dancing Class originally scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September. 13, has been postponed to Tuesday, September 27, at 6 p.m. at the VFW Hall, located on Route 60.
Anyone interested in attending this class must complete a department of recreation registration form in advance. Fee is $35 per four-week session.

The class, instructed by Linda Parker, features a wide variety of music and choreography including Latin, R&B, Soul, Pop, Rock, Country, Disco, and Ballroom, yes, Ballroom.
The Buckingham County Department of Recreation is also offering a Self-Defense Course. Classes will run from October 4 through November 15, on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7 p.m., in the basement conference room of the County Administration Building. Cost is $25. In Virginia, Hunter Education is mandatory for 12 to 15 year olds and all first time hunters 16 years of age and older. So with hunting season just around the corner, it's time to make sure you've taken care of fulfilling this requirement if it applies to you.
The LAST Basic Hunter Education course that will be offered this hunting season is scheduled at the Dillwyn Fire Station on Route 15, October 3 through October 6. Classes run from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each evening.
Please note that students under age 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

On Saturday, October 1, a major youth evangelism event, Youth Encounter, will take place in Buckingham.
Focusing on teenagers throughout Central and Southside Virginia, Youth Encounter will be held on the grounds of the Straight Street building located on Route 20.
From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Youth Encounter will offer numerous outdoor games and activities, music by a Christian rock band, and a message by a youth evangelist.
According to organizers, Youth Encounter is open to all area teens. Pre-teens are also invited.
This project is being co-sponsored by Straight Street, James River Baptist Association, Slate River Baptist Association, Virginia Baptist Mission Board, Buckingham Methodist Charge, Central Virginia Christian School, numerous other churches and businesses, and the Buckingham Sherriff's Office.

Buckingham County Friends of the Library has called a special meeting on Monday, September 26, 7 p.m., at the VFW Hall on Route 60.
The specific purpose of the meeting is to hear a presentation by Julie Dixon, the architect working on the conceptual design for a new library building.
This meeting is open to the public; and, the Friends encourage anyone interested in working with them as they begin this exciting journey to attend. Likewise, the invitation extends to those interested in hearing about the design and its development.
Please note that the Friends of the Library's next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 20, 7 p.m., at the VFW Hall.
The Auxiliary of the Arvonia Fire Department is hosting its annual Women's Day Out on Saturday, October 8, at the Arvonia Fire Department.
This event offers a great place and time to start your Christmas shopping; get your annual mammogram; and get your dogs and cats vaccinated for rabies.
Okay, so tell me where else could you possibly do that kind of one stop shop and take care of business thing?
Vendors will include consultants for Avon, Tupperware, Scentsy, Celebrating Home, 31, Longaberger, Michie Bags, D.E.B.S. Beads, and Discovery Toys.
Other vendors and/or items include handmade crocheted items including Afghans and baby blankets; Egg Art; A Thousand Words Photography; stained glass items; handcrafted fabric items including pillows; fabric covered mini-albums; woodcrafts, and wreaths.
And, the AFD Auxiliary will be selling baked goods.
Public services include the UVA Mobile Mammography Unit in conjunction Breast Cancer Awareness Month. If you would like to take advantage of this service, please call Michelle or Samantha at (434)243-4704 to schedule your mammogram.
Representatives from the Arvonia Chiropractic Center will be on hand. Likewise, representatives from Tirtha Salon & Spa, which will be offering free beauty consultations, free hand massages and paraffin wax dips, and free eyebrow waxing. And, there will be free blood pressure and blood sugar checks will be available.
From 2 to 4 p.m., Dr. Sam Babbitt, from the Fork Union Animal Clinic, will be administering rabies vaccinations at a cost of $7 per shot.
