ARVONIA, Aug. 30 – James Lewis Hudgins, 89, of Arvonia passed away Monday, August 29, 2011 in Charlottesville. He was born in Buckingham County, January 20, 1922, to the late Marshal and Nola Davis Hudgins.

Mr. Hudgins was retired as a slate maker and was the oldest member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and R.A leader for many years. He was also loved gardening and turkey hunting.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lucille Christian Hudgins and son, Michael Lewis Hudgins both of Arvonia. He was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, September 1 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, New Canton. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A reception will follow at the church.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to Arvonia Volunteer Fire Department or Buckingham County Rescue Squad.
